21 Day Detox Cleanse – Week 2

Days 7, 8 & 9
I Made it through the first week! I was done with Cleanse supplements and moved on to Green Food. Weekends can be a challenge… During this time, I had a few parties to attend in addition to cooking for my family of six. Staying true to the cleanse requires some creativity.

I cooked up a lovely homemade marinara sauce that I enjoyed on spaghetti squash. I made meatballs and pasta for the family. Of course I wanted the yummy ciabatta bread, but I settled for an arugula salad topped with sauteed mushrooms, apple slices and pumpkin seeds. I really didn’t miss the pasta, because the squash and marinara was so good.

There are so many filling and tasty vegetables that can easily take the place of carbohydrates. This diet is not about deprivation but about learning how to eat alternative foods that nourish your body and leave you satisfied.

Legumes and Pseudo-Grains that are allowed…
Green Beans, Lentils, Peas and Quinoa.

You may consume 1-2 1/2 cup servings per day on this Plan.

Day 10

Gloomy, rainy weather left me craving warm, comforting breakfast food. In lieu of my regular SP Complete Protein Fruit shake, I made Sweet Quinoa for my day 10 breakfast, and it hit the spot!

Sweet Quinoa is Easy to Make…
Measure 1/4 cup of mixed color quinoa with 1/2 cup of water. Add one chopped date into it while cooking. Simmer for 10 minutes and add some warm coconut milk for extra sweetness and creaminess.

This dish is filling and packed with nutrients like complex carbohydrates, quality protein and all nine essential amino acids. It’s gluten-free and low on the glycemic index. It aids weight loss, lowers cholesterol, balances blood pressure, aids digestion and increases stamina. On the SP Cleanse Plan you can eat 1/2 cup 1-2 times per day. Enjoy!

Days 11, 12 & 13

By day 11, I was settled into a “new normal.” I added fish and lean meat at this time, but I was still avoiding processed and packaged foods. Still no “white” foods (like potatoes and bread) either, but they are easy to skip with satisfying sweet potato or quinoa as a substitute.

Kale salad became a household favorite. I ate it frequently and my girls often packed the leftovers for their unches. It’s great to see 18, 16, 13 and 8 year-olds taking Kale salad to school!

FYI: Americans tend to over eat meat. 3-4 ounces (a cut about the size of your pal)m is the perfect portion. Pair it with a large serving of vegetables for a complete meal.
